Gorton Mount Primary is proud to have a Montessori accredited Foundation Stage. Children in Nursery and Reception classes are taught to be independent learners. Children experience 1-1 lessons with highly structured and sequenced learning materials. Through freedom to explore resources and self-chosen work pupils develop concentration and a love of learning new things. Visitors often comment that our Foundation classrooms are calm and orderly. We use Montessori resources to teach children because they are concrete, hands-on and skills-focussed. The apparatus is used across the whole school to teach basic literacy and numeracy skills wherever this is needed. Many of the general aspects of Montessorian philosophy have become embedded in our culture and ethos, for example, learning is active, practical and child-centred. Children are encouraged to make choices and decisions in their learning. We want our children to be confident, independent and curious about the world around them.
If you would like any more information on our Montessori practice please feel welcome to meet with Ms Thompson or Ms Price to discuss any questions you may have.
